Each year, I sit down at the start of the year to set out my intentions for the year. Admittedly, I don’t like the thought of setting resolutions or goals – not that I don’t appreciate setting a goal and sticking to it. Quite the opposite. I do recognize the need to be resolute and steadfast in meeting your goals. However, the concept of setting a resolution at the start of the year doesn’t take into account for the fact that the rest of the year will happen and your January goal doesn’t assume the twists and turns that will occur in the coming months.
I have often experienced this in my prior goal setting exercises. I set out to accomplish a grand house DIY project, but unintentionally, I get sick that month and it sets me back from that monthly goal. To help balance the idea of setting a goal but accounting for flexibility, I try to set intentions each year.
So here are my 2025 intentions:
- Read 12 books this year
- Improve my overall health and reduce gluten intake
- Increase exercise and run 1 mile+ a month
- Write/create more [blog, newsletter, podcast]
- Advance our home DIY and remodel projects, including:
- Basement
- Laundry room
- Garage organization
What are your intentions for the new year?
